"IT JUST KEEPS HAPPENING" (2024)

Handle with Care is a powerful performance that examines societal and institutional perceptions of the differently-abled body. In this piece, I began by pushing an NHS cage filled with logs around the exterior of the sculpture court, symbolizing the weight and labor often imposed on marginalized bodies. Gradually, I unloaded the logs and laid them flat on the ground, aligning them like bodies in a row. Moving among the logs, I ultimately lay down at the end of the row, becoming one with them—a silent object, a perceived dead weight.

After some time, an unrecognizable figure entered the space, aggressively dragging me from the floor and forcing me back into the cage while I visibly struggled and resisted. This abrupt act shattered the calm atmosphere, confronting the audience with the violence of societal expectations and the dehumanization of bodies deemed "different."

This performance sought to evoke both empathy and discomfort, highlighting the way institutions and society enforce their assumptions about what my body can and cannot do. By juxtaposing calm reflection with sudden aggression, It Just Keeps Happening forces the audience to confront the emotional and physical toll of being objectified and constrained by others' perceptions.
